ZFS falls even further behind the linear write engine of ESS, and in many cases is well behind the bare array. ZFS SSD Wear: This is probably a “show stopper” for many applications. With a > 20X wear amplification before the SSDs FTL is taken

ZFS will certainly wear out an SSD sooner than say, NTFS. The question is whether we should care or not. If it were 1% most of us would say "who cares" and do it without hesitation. But what if it decreases the lifespan by 50%.

Mar 26, 2020 · I'd use the SSD for the ESP and root partitions, the old drive for home and swap. Swap can get overused and it's always a good idea to set swappiness to 10, but you don't want the SSD used for swap. You can also save unnecessary wear on the SSD by adding noatime, nodiratime to the root partition parameters in /etc/fstab.

Aug 03, 2016 · Referred to as wear-leveling, this technique causes physical memory blocks wander around in the logical address space over time, thus spreading the wear across all available physical blocks. The...
Just like with prefetching, InnoDB has its own caching logic, so ZFS's caching would be redundant and less well optimized. We have ZFS cache only metadata: primarycache=metadata. 1,2,10,13. ZFS's default record size of 128KB is appropriate for medium-sequential writes, i.e. general use including database backups, which may also use this dataset. You would still need to run SLC SSD drives for ZIL drives, though, as that would reduce wear on the MLC SSD drives that were being used for data storage. If you plan to attach a lot of SSD drives ...IMO, it's better to give the ZIL more so that you don't wear out the one spot on your SSD you give to ZIL (remember SSDs wear out). If you give it more, then the drive should move the used areas around a bit so you don't wear the drive out so quickly. Don't partition the drive and use part of it for ZIL and part of it for L2ARC.Is the "write 2 copies" adviceable for a SSD (wear) ? I feel a lot safer with it on my NAS and data stores, and any business is likely to want it.
FreeNAS/TrueNAS ZFS NVMe SSD Pool with multiple datasets. ... This increases overhead and could result in reduced IO and speed, as well as create more wear on the SSD when performing writes. Some HDs and SSDs come with utilities or tools to change the sector size of the drive. I highly recommend changing it to it's native sector size.Dec 07, 2020 · 12/7/2020 Solid-state drive - Wikipedia 3/48 Windows 7 Windows 8.1 ZFS FreeBSD Swap partitions Standardization organizations Commercialization Availability Quality and performance Sales See also References Further reading External links Background and general Other An early—if not the first—semiconductor storage device compatible with a ...
It's reasonable to double or triple this number as a precaution, and to allow SSD wear leveling to reduce the impact of this heavy write load. In my case I'll be sizing my ZIL to 30 GiB. So I have a pair of 200 GB SSDs, of which I only need 30 GiB for ZIL.
